Bay & Bow Windows

Bay and bow windows push out from the wall, adding light from three directions and a little extra room inside, often enough for a window seat. Many East Bay homes have an original bay that’s overdue for new glass.

Windows That Project From the Wall

A bay window is usually three units: a large center window with two angled side windows, set at 30 or 45 degrees. A bow window uses four or more equal windows in a gentle curve. Both project outward, so the room gains floor space and the windows catch light from several angles.

Because they extend past the wall, bays and bows need proper support, a roof or head board above, and careful insulation and flashing. That’s where the installation matters as much as the windows themselves.

Bay and Bow Window FAQ

Straight answers from the people who install them.

A bay is usually three windows with angled sides. A bow uses four or more equal windows in a gentle curve and projects a bit less.
Often, yes, but it involves framing, support and a roof over the projection, plus a permit. We look at the wall and explain what’s involved before quoting.
We replace the full units rather than just glass, and we check the roof, head board and flashing above, since that’s where most bay leaks start.
A small box-shaped bay, usually over a kitchen sink, with glass on the top and sides for herbs and plants.
It depends on the brand, material, size, glass and how many you’re replacing. We don’t quote a number before measuring. You get a fair, detailed written quote for free, and the quote is what you pay.
