Many Lafayette ranch homes from the 1940s to 60s still have single-pane wood or aluminum windows that rattle, sweat and leak heat. Replacement windows can fit inside the old frames, keeping the siding and trim intact, in styles that respect the home’s mid-century look.
East of the Caldecott Tunnel, Lafayette loses the bay’s cooling, and summer afternoons often reach the 90s. Low-E glass made for hot climates blocks much of that heat while keeping rooms bright, which matters most in west-facing family rooms and bedrooms.
Much of the hillside area around Lafayette is mapped as a high or very high fire hazard zone. Homes there may need dual-pane windows with tempered glass, and the big view windows many hill homes have call for careful sizing and support. We check your address against the state fire map before anything is ordered.
Homes near Highway 24 and the BART line hear traffic and trains all day. Laminated or sound-rated glass cuts that down noticeably, usually in the bedrooms first.
