Sliding Windows

The most common window in East Bay ranch and tract homes. If your house still has its original aluminum sliders, a modern sliding window is the most direct upgrade: same look, smooth operation, and far better comfort.

A Sash That Glides Sideways

A sliding window has one or two sashes that glide horizontally along a track. Because nothing swings out or lifts, sliders are simple to use and fit wide, short openings well, which is why builders put them in so many homes from the 1950s through the 90s.

Old aluminum sliders conduct heat and cold, sweat in winter and wear their tracks until the sash drags. New vinyl and fiberglass sliders roll on sealed rollers, lock tightly and use dual-pane Low-E glass.

Sliding Window FAQ

Straight answers from the people who install them.

Usually, yes. A retrofit slider fits inside the existing frame, so the stucco and trim outside stay intact.
On a single slider, one sash moves and the other is fixed. On a double slider, both move, so you can open either side.
Worn rollers and tracks, plus aluminum that has bent over time. New sliders roll on sealed rollers and glide easily for years.
Sometimes. Casements seal tighter and open fully, but need room outside to swing. We often keep sliders in most rooms and use casements where airflow or noise matters most.
It depends on the brand, material, size, glass and how many you’re replacing. We don’t quote a number before measuring. You get a fair, detailed written quote for free, and the quote is what you pay.
